Message Very little had anything to do with reality...........
Anyone can post noise on the internet and it clearly shows the writer lacks any real understanding.
The weight of the car is constant.
A reasonable size tire is required to support the weight of the car and not have the tire overheat.
A reasonable pressure is required to keep the tire from overheating if the car is going to be driven any length of time.
If the tire pressure is constant, you start with a larger enough tire to support the weight, the car weight is constant, A tire that is a little larger and will still fit, will have the same size contact patch and only change the shape.
The reason why the patch size stays the same and only the shape changes, is because in order for a tire to support the weight of the car, the tire will deflect until it can support the weight.
If the car weight stays the same, A narrow tire will deflect more because it has more pressure on a smaller area, it will continue to defect until it can support the weight.
The wider tire will defect less because it already has more surface area to support the weight without needing to defect as much.

Simple Physics says the amount of surface area required to support the weight of the car will defect the tire until the weight is supported and the surface area will be equal no matter what direction that shape needs to go to offer support.
Simply the pressure from the weight of the car will change as tire width changes and the end result will always equal the same surface area to support the weight.
If your crazy overloading the tire, or talking about a tire so much larger than can possibly fit, your out of the scope of reality and of course you can get extreme enough to go beyond what will occur in real use.
If your in the correct size range to support the weight of the car, and fit the car, it will have the same contact patch size.

Look at it another way............
Take wet cement, it you step in wet cement with your foot, your going to sink if the cement is soft enough to not support your weight with the surface area of your shoe size.
But if you place a 6x6 board on the cement, you can stand on the board and it only sinks 1/8" because now your placing your weight over a larger surface area that can support your weight. You can change that board long ways or width ways, as long as you keep the surface area the same, you will always sink the same amount. If the total surface area of the board gets smaller, you will sink more. If the total surface area is greater you will sink less.
The tire works the same way, in order to support the weight of the car, it requires a given surface area of a tire. The tire will simply defect until it reaches the point of supporting the weight.
